Dave Schmidt

Band & Instrumental Adjudicator

A former school band/choral director and school administrator, Dave has over 30 years’ experience in music education.  His high school ensembles have toured throughout Canada and USA, receiving numerous awards at festivals and competitions.  His groups were featured at World Curling, Scott Tournament of Hearts, Canada Summer Games, Red River Ex and Manitoba Legislative Open House events.  In addition, they have had the honour of performing for Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Manitoba Premier Gary Filmon.

In 2015, Dave was appointed Conductor of the 60 member Winnipeg Pops Orchestra.  Forty-five years as a pipe organist, Dave has also played saxophone and piano in various jazz, rhythm & blues and classic rock bands. In 2006, he received a Juno Award for Best Aboriginal Album in “Burnt Project One.”

Dave received his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Music Education from Dickinson State University, North Dakota and is near completion of his Masters of Music Education, Brandon University.
